Valentine Business Survey Results 2014
Thank you for taking part in our survey. Here, as promised, are the results. For most florists,
this should provide confirmation that the country as a whole did well at Valentine's Day. For those whose business
wasn't quite as good I hope that these results will provide support to show that things can get better.
I don't
know about you, but I've been sceptical of the recovery, much trumpeted by politicians and some parts of the (London centred)
media. From talking to our customers, many found it hard going last autumn. When that was followed by a disappointing
Christmas most were wary and cautious about how Valentine's Day was going to turn out.
In the light of this,
our survey shows surprisingly good news. The vast majority of florists have done well, and much better than they expected.
Those who suffered from poorer sales were definitely an unfortunate minority. In addition, it has left almost 2
out of 3 more optimistic about the rest of the year.

As you can see from the chart above, Valentine's Day was better than expected for the
majority (2 out of 3 businesses) with 1 out of 3 declaring it Much better than they expected. Only 1
in 20 said that it was worse than they had expected.
Two out of three florists did better business than last year. Only 1 in 12 felt
that business hadn't been so good.

Following the level of business they achieved for Valentine's day florists were generally
hopeful of a Mother's Day at least as good as last year, with half expecting it to be better and only 1 in 25 thinking
that it might be worse.
The good Valentine's business has given most florists a boost. More than 7
out of 10 feel optimistic about the rest of the year, with only 1 in 20 pessimistic.
Let's hope that this
proves to be the case for us all!
